People often seek support from a mental health professional because of a specific difficulty in their life related to their family, relationships, work, or understanding themselves. They may also seek help when overwhelmed by confusing or upsetting feelings and may have difficulty solving problems that inhibit their life satisfaction. Therapy affords the opportunity to explore these feelings and concerns in the solitude and privacy of a therapist’s office. The privacy of this encounter makes deeper parts of ourselves available for discussion. Therefore, the opportunity for honesty and subsequent growth comes about naturally and organically.
