About Dr. Weingarten

Joanne Weingarten, M.A., Psy.D., has worked in the field of mental health for nearly 23 years. She received her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and her doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis in diversity from Philips Graduate Institute. Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of environments and with a wide range of clients including at-risk youth, adults, couples, and groups. Some areas of focus have included individuals with persistent mental health disorders as well as their families, grief, mood disorders, challenges around transitions, relationships, and self discovery exploration.

Dr. Weingarten is also a grief expert having spent seven and a half years as a Clinical and Senior Clinical Coordinator at OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center in Los Angeles, California. In her time there, she conducted initial assessments, ran groups for people grieving the death of someone in their life (child, partner, parents, sibling, etc.), and ran workshops for grievers at a number of agencies including hospitals such as Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Weingarten also had an opportunity to run various trainings for medical students, doctors, nurses, clergy, teachers, school counselors, and therapists on working with grievers in their community and co-facilitated a 3-Day grief intensive. Dr. Weingarten co-lead 3-Day trainings for volunteers interested in running grief support groups. Additionally, Dr. Weingarten ran volunteer group supervision for those facilitating groups to provide guidance psychoeducation, direction, and support. Over the years Dr. Weingarten has provided grief support and education to businesses after the death of an employee.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Weingarten has spent years working as a supervisor and mentor in various settings guiding the next generation of mental health professionals with a focus on ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and the importance of self-care in a demanding field. She also collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and holistic care for her clients.

Dr. Weingarten is passionate about supporting individuals and communities through difficult times, helping them grieve, heal, and build resilience. Whether working directly with clients or through her advocacy and educational efforts, she is driven by a deep belief in the power of compassionate care to transform lives.
